So, there are many influences behind this chat. The obvious one is Glamorama, from which the title of the chat is based on, and it is a book by Bret Easton Ellis. So, I'm going to make a list of recommended books/movies/music to check out that might give you an idea of what we're striving for in this chat.
Books:
Movies/Television
Music/Songs
Books:
- Glamorama, by Bret Easton Ellis. It's a book about the world of male modeling, specifically, and a lot of filthy, fucked up things happen in it. No characters taken from the book, please.
- Any other book by Bret Easton Ellis will do, too. The guy is a great writer and rules at describing beautiful worlds with ugly undertones.
- Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. It's about a fashion model whose face gets disfigured.
Movies/Television
- Requiem for a Dream. It doesn't have anything to do with modeling, but it's an excellent movie about things falling apart.
- Factory Girl. Based in the '60s, but still a great film about fame, glamor, and the evil that comes with it.
- Zoolander. A funnier look at the fashion industry.
- Project Runway, the reality television show that follows a competition between fashion designers.
- America's Next Top Model, if you can stand Tyra Banks.
Music/Songs
- "Shadowplay" by Joy Division, and the cover done by The Killers.
- "I Wanna Be Adored" by The Stone Roses
- All of Interpol's music.
- Silent Shout, an album by The Knife.
- Moby is good music to listen to.
- Four Tet's album 'Rounds'.
- Of Montreal: all their music, really.
